Homecoming at Liberty Hill Cemetery is June 1

The officers and directors of the Liberty Hill Cemetery Association  invite the community to the 62nd Annual Homecoming on June 1 to be held  in the park area of the cemetery.

The annual homecoming event provides an opportunity for families to  get together and enjoy a meal and good company. Many families hold  reunions in conjunction with the event. It is a chance for the  community to visit and reminisce, and is one day away from busy  schedules to spend with friends and family remembering those who have  passed.

The meal will begin about 11:30 a.m. and will be catered by Mopsy’s  Catering. Barbecue brisket, sausage, beans, coleslaw, condiments and  tea will be served for $11 per plate. Desserts are not provided with  the meal, but may be available for purchase in limited supply.  Several activities are planned for this year’s homecoming. An  important part of the homecoming is the reading of those who have  passed away during the last year. For many, this is part of the  closure associated with the passing of a loved one.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Emily Cousins along with  a bluegrass accompaniment.

Guest speaker will be Bobby Mabry, principal of Liberty Hill High  School, who will provide an update on he growth in the school district  and the role that the newly-constructed and renovated school  facilities play in supporting the continuing growth of Liberty Hill.   Gary Spivey will have photographs on display from years past of  “old Liberty Hill.” This year’s event will allow participants the  opportunity to learn about the history of Liberty Hill, a chance for  others to reminisce a little and for all the chance to become  enlightened about our future.

Books will also be available for purchase that offer a history of  the Liberty Hill Cemetery as well as history about the community.  The books, Culture of the Shin Oak Ridge Folk by J. Gordon Bryson,  Recollections and Observations of Judge C.L. Chance as told to his son  Joseph E. Chance and the Liberty Hill Cemetery Book of Burials will be  available for purchase with the proceeds to benefit the Liberty Hill  Cemetery Association.

Homecoming is the Association’s only fundraiser and donations are  welcome. Checks may be made payable to the Liberty Hill Cemetery  Association. Donations are appreciated and help keep the cemetery in  the condition that the community has come to expect.
