66th Annual Homecoming set June 3

The Officers and Directors of the Liberty Hill Cemetery Association invite you to the 66th Annual Homecoming on June 3, 2018. This event will be held at the park area of the cemetery, 16101 W. SH 29.

Homecoming provides an opportunity for families to get together and enjoy a meal and lots of good company for an afternoon. Rain or shine, please join us as we remember those that have passed in the last year on this special day.

The meal will begin at approximately 11:30am and will be catered by Catering by Mopsie. The meal will consist of barbecue brisket, sausage, beans, coleslaw, condiments and tea. The cost is $12 per plate. Please bring lawn chairs as seating is limited.

The Honorable Billy Ray Stubblefield, Presiding Judge of the Third Administrative Judicial Region is our master of ceremony this year. He will open our event and provide a little information about our cemetery from the past year. Our musical talent will be provided by Cade Baccus. His daughters, Maelynn and C’Lee, will be singing with him again this year along with his band, The Sawdust Stompers. They provide family entertainment for all ages.

For many a part of the closure associated with the passing of a loved one is the reading of those that have passed and this reading will be done by Kenneth Cousins. Gary Spivey and his daughter, Kandice Spivey Wright, will have pictures on display from years past of “old” Liberty Hill. This year they will also have on display a quilt from 1927 signed by the Liberty Hill football team of 1927. Extra copies of pictures may be available for those interested. History is often lost in a community without the dedication of individuals interested in its preservation. This is a perfect opportunity to learn and or share a little bit of history with others.

Also this year, the Association will recognize the many contributions of James Hanley, who has served as president 33 years. To help us show our appreciation for his 40 years of service on the board, Beck Funeral Home is providing dessert. A resolution will be adopted in his honor.

For those who are visiting for the weekend please note the Red Brick School House reunion will be held this year at the Over the Hill Gang building located at 3307 RR 1869. The reunion is on Saturday, June 2, from 2-4pm.

We will have books available for purchase, which have history of the Liberty Hill Cemetery as well as history about Liberty Hill. The books “Culture of the Shin Oak Ridge Folk” by J. Gordon Bryson and “Recollections and Observations of Judge C. L. Chance” as told to his son Joseph E. Chance will be available for purchase with the proceeds to benefit the Liberty Hill Cemetery Association.

Homecoming is our only fundraiser for the cemetery and while we do not add anything to the price of the meal – donations are always welcome and may be made payable to the Liberty Hill Cemetery Association. If you are not able to attend, but would like to donate please send donations to PO Box 73, Liberty Hill, TX 78642. Your donations are greatly appreciated and are what keep our cemetery in the condition you have come to expect. We look forward to seeing you there!
